Marking of heat pumps

To make it easier for the consumer to evaluate whether an air source heat pump is energy efficient, the heat pump is marked with an energy label. How energy efficient the heat pump is indicated by a letter between A and G. This label is the same throughout Europe.

 

 

Heat pump only for room heating

A symbol of an element on the energy labeling label indicates room heating and a scale from A ++ to G shows the energy efficiency class for room heating. The scale goes from A ++, which is the most efficient, to G, which is the least efficient. All heat pumps are in the highest energy efficiency classes.

Sound power level (noise)

The heat pump's sound power level for both the pump's indoor part and its outdoor part can be found on the energy label.

A difference of a couple of decibels cannot be perceived by the ear, while a difference of ten decibels is perceived as twice as high. How important the sound level of the heat pump is depends on how its parts are to be placed.

Power in kilowatts (kW) shows how much heat the heat pump can provide

Kilowatt (kW) is the quantity unit used to show the power of the heat pump. The heat pump is able to produce more heat the higher the power it has. But choose your heat pump based on how much need for heat and hot water you have as the heat pump with the highest power does not necessarily fit best in your home. The installer can help you choose the right size of heat pump for your home.

The heat pump must also be selected based on the climate in which it is to be used. There is a map of Europe on the energy label which shows three climate zones; warmer (light blue), medium (medium blue) and colder (dark blue). The effect of the heat pump in the three climate zones is stated on the label. For a heat pump to be used in Sweden, it is above all the effect in cold climates that is important to look at.

If the heat pump is to produce domestic hot water for taps and showers, a separate energy efficiency class is stated for the heating of water. It is displayed on a scale from A, which is the most efficient, to G, which is the least efficient. All heat pumps are in the higher energy efficiency classes. A symbol of a water tap on the energy label shows that a heat pump can produce domestic hot water. Which tap profile the heat pump is tested to cope with is indicated by the symbol of the water tap. The tap profile goes from 3XS, which is the smallest dimension, to XXL, which is the largest dimension. This measure shows how much hot water the heat pump can produce.

Smart steering

Some heat pumps are controlled based on the hourly price for electricity and are started automatically when the electricity price is low, for example during certain hours of the day or at night. This is shown on the energy label with a clock and several coins.

The energy label on the heat pump must contain:

  • Energy efficiency class for when the heat pump is used to produce cooling on a scale between AG, where A is most efficient.
  • The annual energy consumption of the heat pump in cooling mode. It denotes the energy consumption of the heat pump at full cooling power for 500 hours.
  • How much cooling effect the heat pump has in kilowatts.
  • Energy efficiency ratio for cooling, which shows how efficiently the air is cooled by the heat pump.
  • Energy efficiency class for when the heat pump is used to produce heat on a scale between AG, where A is most efficient.
  • How much heat output the heat pump has in kilowatts
  • Noise dB (A) shows the sound level of the heat pump.
