What is comfort cooling?
Energy for comfort cooling is the amount of energy used to lower the building's indoor temperature for human comfort. This does not apply to cold rooms and the like. Comfort cooling is included in the building's energy use.
In a building, a cooling need can arise due to, for example, solar radiation in the summer and heat from people and various appliances in the building. In order to minimize the need for comfort cooling, one must, among other things, take into account the excess heat that can arise when designing, e.g. from solar radiation or from equipment in the building such as lighting and appliances. This can be done with the help of both construction and installation technical measures. To reduce the need for comfort cooling, e.g. size and location of windows and whether there is the possibility of sun protection is of great importance. Efficient lighting and equipment also reduce internal heat additions.
In buildings that have an electric cooling machine and have an installed electrical power for heating and domestic hot water that is less than 10 W / m2, the electrical energy for the cooling machine must be multiplied by 1.875 in addition to multiplication by the primary energy number for electricity.
Cooling energy that is obtained directly from the environment without a cooling machine from seawater, outdoor air or the like (so-called free cooling) is not included in the requirement for primary energy.
